Discover Your Preference: Teeth Whitening vs. Veneers

Teeth whitening or veneers can give you a smile makeover

If you’re looking for whiter teeth, Parmer Lane Family Dentistry offers various solutions for a smile makeover.

As we get older, our teeth can start to show their age and may not be as dazzling white as they were when we were younger. As we age, some people don’t like how the look of their smile changes over time. If you are feeling self-conscious and want to give your smile a makeover, Dr. Garcia at Parmer Lane Family Dentistry offers solutions that can make your pearly whites sparkle once again.

What solutions does Parmer Lane Family Dental offer?

At Parmer Lane Family Dental, two different smile makeover treatments are offered: Teeth whitening and veneers. Each procedure may not be recommended for every patient, so it’s important to speak to Dr. Garcia about your smile goals and desires.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments in the United States, and Dr. Garcia offers both an in-office and at-home treatment option. Teeth whitening is so popular because it can remove years worth of stains from smoking or the foods we consume, like red wine or coffee, from teeth fairly quickly.

The first teeth whitening treatment offered is an in-office procedure using a procedure called Zoom! Rest assured, this isn’t any kind of video conferencing we all became accustomed to during the pandemic. For the Zoom! teeth whitening treatment, a regular dental cleaning is suggested to make sure the surface of your teeth is clear of any plaque or tartar.

Once that is done, your gums and lips are prepped so that just the teeth are exposed. The tooth whitening solution, which is made of hydrogen peroxide, is applied to the teeth. A special light is then placed close to the mouth. The solution and the light work together to break down the stains on your teeth. This procedure usually takes about an hour and results can last for up to two years.

Parmer Lane Family Dentistry also offers an at-home teeth whitening kit for those who can’t make it into the office. For the take-home treatment, a patient first needs to be fitted for trays, which will be custom-fitted to their mouth at an appointment in our office. Once the custom-fitted trays are created, you are sent home with a tooth whitening solution, which will get placed in the trays and worn at your convenience. With this option, you can curl up on your couch and watch a movie while getting your teeth whitened—all on your own time.

No matter which option you and Dr. Garcia choose, the teeth whitening treatments offered by us are safe and effective—no need to worry about over bleaching when instructions are followed exactly.

Veneers

If you are looking to repair cracked teeth or change the shape of your teeth, a veneer may be the option you are looking for. At Parmer Lane Family Dentistry, porcelain veneer inlays and onlays are used because of their durability and how similar they look to your natural teeth. If properly taken care of, a porcelain veneer can last years!

A veneer is basically a ceramic material that is molded to the shape of a tooth, and then cemented over a natural tooth. A veneer can be used to cover up a crack, to change the shape of a tooth, cover up a gap between teeth, straighten out a crooked tooth, cover up stains, and to even change the shape of your smile.

Inlay and onlay veneers can be used for both cosmetic and restorative dental treatments and can last years. Dr. Garcia will work with you to see which option is best for your smile makeover goals.

Which option is best for me?

Which option you are looking for depends on what you are trying to achieve with your smile makeover.

If you are looking to whiten your teeth and make them sparkle, you may just be interested in a teeth whitening treatment.

If you have damage to any of your teeth, if they are crooked, or if there is any space or small gaps between teeth, veneers might be the treatment you are looking for.

And, if you are looking for a complete smile makeover, both options could be used.

One size does not fit all.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to a smile makeover. Each person’s teeth age differently, and because of that, they need to be treated individually. If you are interested in perfecting your smile with a smile makeover, either with teeth whitening, veneers, or both, contact Dr. Garcia to schedule an appointment. She will do a thorough exam and discuss the best plan for you based on the results you want!
